But you can ride most of the cards in your deck. Riding is sorta like land? Kinda? In that it sort of gatekeeps the pace of the game to some degree.
#CARDFIGHT VANGUARD VIDEO GAME ACT 1.3 HOW TO#
I actually learned how to play by watching the anime long before I had ever picked up a physical card. I'm not saying YGO is bad for it, just saying that CFV is way more grounded in that sense. And there is exactly 1 card as far as I know that exists in the anime that is not printed. It's not like YGO where they take a lot of liberties with timing, weird effects, etc. I think the anime is pretty good at showing the rules of the game tbh. Naoki isnt exactly in the center of everything that go wrong with later Vanguard seasons but you'd be lying if you said hes probably not a large part of it That said its still rather surreal to me how badly a single (extremely) popular character could have warped an entire series.

#CARDFIGHT VANGUARD VIDEO GAME ACT 1.3 SERIES#
Sadly the anime series drops off since and never truly picked up until the prequel series which is pretty decent in what it tried to do but by the time the prequel series happened the damage are rather noticable and have already been done. S2 was weak, S3 was heavy on supernatural elements but it had generally strong cast and imo is in a couple of ways the peak of the series(alongside a particular mini arc of season 1) This is unfair dude, Vanguard main character is clearly female.īut yeah s1 Vanguard is kinda Slice of Life Card Game anime done right. I watched Vanguard and i agree for most of these. Try to give it 5 episodes because with the first couple it might seem too much like a Yugioh clone.

Subsequent seasons delve into the supernatural stuff more, but the first season is a complete story so you can stop if you want. It’s on YouTube so no subscription is needed. The main character often loses, and he loses because of gameplay mistakes that he learns fromĪgain, I’m not saying you should drop this game and move to Vanguard, nor am I saying that Yugioh anime sucks, it’s just I see a lot of people ask for them above so I thought I’d recommend it for those unaware. Side characters for the most part stay relevant Seeing characters purchase packs and improve their gameplay and deck building overtime This is NOT an endorsement of the Vanguard card game, it’s just that when people say what they would like to see in a Yugioh anime, you get those things in the first season of Cardfight, some examples includeĪ focus on the LGS scene progressing to regionals and then nationalsĬharacter focused storylines where they use the game to grow as peopleįemale characters who kick just as much butt and have actual arcs that don’t involve being a damsel in distress
